Making the Most of Your Wedding Budget
Every couple has different priorities when it comes to their wedding budget. You may care more about having an amazing photographer than specialty linens, or decide that beautiful florals matter more to you than offering a full bar. There really isn't one right way to divide it all up.
What we can tell you is where we've seen couples make small adjustments that help their budget without taking away from the overall wedding. There are also a few areas where we'd recommend being careful about choosing based on price alone.
A Few Things Worth Prioritizing
The most obvious one is your venue. A beautiful space is important, but the people behind it matter just as much. You want a venue and staff you can depend on to be ready for you, answer questions, handle the details, and keep things moving when your wedding day arrives. Experience and reliability matter when you're trusting a team with such a big day.
We'd also be careful about cutting too far when it comes to photography. These are the photos you'll have long after the wedding is over, so find someone whose work you genuinely love, who has wedding experience, and who you trust to capture the day well.
And then there's catering. You certainly don't need the most elaborate menu available, but preparing food for a large group takes experience. Good food and a catering team that knows how to handle an event are worth prioritizing.
Once those bigger pieces are taken care of, there are plenty of places where a simpler choice can still look beautiful and give you a little more room in your budget.
Simplify Your Linens
Linens are usually one of the first places we look when a couple wants to make an adjustment.
Pintuck, crinkle, layered looks, and other specialty linens can be beautiful, but a solid linen still looks great and functions perfectly. It gives you a beautiful base for the rest of your tablescape without needing to spend more on specialty fabrics.
You can also mix the two. Use a specialty linen on your sweetheart table, cake table, or another area you'd like to highlight and keep solids throughout the rest of the reception.
Consider Beer and Wine for the Bar
You don't have to offer a full liquor bar for your guests to enjoy the bar.
Beer and wine are tried and true and can be a great alternative if you're looking for a place to simplify. Your guests can still grab a drink and celebrate with you without the additional expense that comes with offering a full selection of liquor and mixers.
Give Your Florist Some Flexibility
Flowers are another area where you have options.
If a flower you love is out of season, difficult to source, or needs to be imported, the price can climb quickly. That doesn't necessarily mean giving up the look you had in mind.
Our floral designer can work closely with you to find flowers with a similar color, shape, or overall look that are more readily available and work better with your budget. A few substitutions can make a difference while still keeping the overall floral vision you love.
Decide What Matters Most to You
Making the most of your wedding budget doesn't mean choosing the least expensive option at every turn. It's about figuring out which parts of the day matter most to you and giving yourself some flexibility with the rest.
Maybe you keep the photographer you really want and choose a solid linen. Maybe you go all in on your florals and keep the bar to beer and wine. Those smaller adjustments can give you more room for the things you really don't want to compromise on.
You don't have to cut everything to stay within your budget. Sometimes, you just need to know where a simpler option can work just as well.
